The Annual Meeting of RHCG is to be held at Ranelagh Hall this Saturday, 24 October, at 3pm. Everybody is welcome to come and hear what we have been up to (and share afternoon tea). We can receive new memberships if you would like to join before the meeting begins, and you will be able to vote on RHCG business immediately.
If you would like to read the meeting Agenda and Reports, they are available here.
At the Makers Market on 10 October, we (RHCG) ran a mini-survey about our neighbourhood, asking people what they value about Ranelagh and what could make it better. We also gave some information about RHCG and some of our ideas for improving our neighbourhood: such as, protecting and improving the Village Green, establishing walkways and improving access to the river, protecting and upgrading the Ranelagh Playground, setting up a Community Garden, advocating for revised speed limits on Agnes and Marguerite Streets, and addressing food insecurity through crop swaps, food coops or low-cost outlets.
We were really grateful for the time so many people took to seriously think about these and contribute other suggestions. It’s clear that Ranelagh locals are well engaged with our neighbourhood and appreciate its beauty and community assets. Thank you to all who contributed!
The next step is for us to do some analysis on the results, so watch this space – and we will be following up with a more formal community survey over coming weeks and months. All of your input will help RHCG in planning its next steps and discussions with Huon Valley Council as well as non-government organisations like Resilience Canopy.
Our first Market day on 10 October was a great success, with a good crowd of locals and visitors browsing a great range of art, craft, plants, hand-made books and dolls. The market was in full swing from 3pm until 7pm with perfect weather, and coffee and snacks available.
One of the frequently-asked questions was: “When are you doing it again?” To which the answer was, “Soon, for sure!” Just watch this space for the next Market and other events to help make our community a fun space where neighbours can support one another.
Mark your calendars for a great upcoming event. A special Makers’ Market is taking place on Saturday 10 October, running from 3 pm till twilight at the Ranelagh Soldiers Memorial Hall, 40 Marguerite Street. Come along to support local artists and craftspeople, browse original handmade creations, enjoy delicious food and drink, and catch up with friends and neighbours. It’s also the first time since decimal currency that a market day has been held at the hall!
While you are enjoying the market, be sure to drop by the display hosted by the Ranelagh Hall and Community Group. RHCG are a local group with a mission to encourage community use of the hall and run community-led activities that strengthen social ties, community identity, safety, and well-being. By bringing residents together and building local networks, we aim to grow a more connected, inclusive, and resilient community for everyone. Some community activities over the last year have included a sausage sizzle on Ranelagh Green, a circus skills workshop and a games afternoon in the hall. Still to come is a Bush Dance in the Hall on Saturday 28 November.
At the Makers’ Market on 10 October, RHCG will be running a short community survey. We want to hear from you about what you love most about Ranelagh, as well as any local issues that need attention. You will even have the chance to vote for potential community projects to help shape the direction of our neighbourhood, and share your vision of what Ranelagh could look like in five years. Join us in Ranelagh Hall to support our local makers, enjoy the friendly atmosphere, and make your voice count for our community.
